Security guards and cleaners working at the mall were in danger when three stolen cars drove into the Ormiston Town Center mall in East Auckland during a daring night raid.
Police said many criminals entered three stores in the Flat Bush complex around 1:10 a.m., seizing a number of electronic items and clothing.
“The behavior of the violators and the manner of driving endangered the safety of the cleaner who was working in the shopping center at the time,” the spokesman said.
The group fled in two stolen cars.
Police are now investigating the raid, including examining CCTV footage, a spokesman said.
Remaining broken glass and twisted metal. Noel Leaming was one of the targets.
A man at the scene said empty iPad boxes and a microwave oven were scattered near the electronics store, and a “big” TV was smashed. According to him, the glass was broken everywhere.
A Postie employee with whom Herald spoke said the damage to the store was minimal and they felt participants may have made a mistake with the red brand of the store behind the technology store and appliances next door.
“Just our door [was damaged]they probably thought we were Noel Leaming. “
The shops are next to each other on the Bellingham Road side of the mall.
There was also a tow truck at the scene.
The Herald understands that the young men used vehicles to break through the entrance to the Ormiston mall before driving through the mall and raiding the shops.
