WELLINGTON, April 26 (Xinhua) – 6,380 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in New Zealand on Tuesday, the country’s health ministry said.
In Auckland’s largest city, 1,667 new infections were detected. In addition, 62 new cases of COVID-19 have been detected on the border with New Zealand, the ministry said.
“Although this is an increase from last week, the number of reported cases in the community is expected to continue to fluctuate from day to day, and the overall trend remains a decrease in registered cases,” the ministry said in a statement.
There are now 508 patients in New Zealand hospitals, including 16 in intensive care units. The ministry also reported four more deaths from COVID-19.
New Zealand has reported 893,634 confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic in the country.
