WELLINGTON, April 10 (Xinhua) – New Zealand has recorded 6,718 new cases of COVID-19, the health ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

Among the 6,718 new community infections, 1,202 were reported in Auckland’s largest city.

In addition, 31 new cases of COVID-19 infection have been detected on the border with New Zealand, the ministry said.

There are currently 604 patients with COVID-19 in New Zealand hospitals, including 22 people in intensive care units or high-dependence units. The ministry also reported 12 deaths from COVID-19 on Sunday.

New Zealand has reported 765,609 confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.

New Zealand is now at its highest level under the COVID-19 protection framework, during which indoor gatherings are limited to 200 people with no restrictions on outdoor gatherings.
