Warriors’ hooker Freddy Lussick faces a four-match suspension in the aftermath of a tackle that resulted in South Sydney halfback Lachlan Ilias sustaining a broken leg.
During the New South Wales Cup encounter between the Rabbitohs and the Warriors preceding the NRL fixture, Lussick, while exerting kick pressure on Ilias, inadvertently made contact with his kicking leg, leading to a distressing fracture resonating through Sydney’s Accor Stadium on Saturday.
In the closing moments of the game, a confrontation ensued among players following the unfortunate incident, ultimately leading to Lussick’s dismissal after the Warriors’ reserve team succumbed to a 26-20 defeat against South Sydney.
Initially facing a potential suspension of up to eight weeks, Lussick’s ban was eventually reduced to four matches following a contentious battle by the Warriors against the charge.
The NRL’s judiciary panel delivered the verdict late Wednesday night, leaving Lussick sidelined until round 10, when the Warriors confront the Roosters on May 12.
As the backup hooker for the Warriors behind Wayde Egan, Lussick plays a pivotal role in the squad, particularly considering Egan’s susceptibility to injuries. His absence leaves the team without a specialized hooker in the event of Egan’s unavailability.
Meanwhile, South Sydney’s halfback Ilias faces an extended spell on the sidelines, likely missing the remainder of the season due to his injury. Despite the setback, Ilias harbors no resentment towards Lussick, acknowledging the unintentional nature of the incident.
